Front Porch Tamales

Front Porch Tamales Story

Hi Everyone,

My name is Rachel, and for those who don’t know me, I am the proud owner of Front Porch Tamales. First and foremost, I want to start by saying THANK YOU, LORD, and thank you to everyone who took the time to be here today.

I’d like to share a bit about how this transition came about for me. I spent 36 years working for a large corporate company, but nothing in this world is more of a blessing than my two beautiful daughters. And, as most of you know, becoming a grandparent is one of the greatest legacies you can leave behind.

So, when one of my daughters had a beautiful baby girl named Lillian, it was such a blessing, but also a challenge. Lillian was born with some complications, and my husband and I had many conversations about how I could best help. He encouraged me to do whatever was needed. After talking with my daughter, I made the decision to retire and step in to help. I also thought I could make a few tamales to earn some extra money for gas and expenses—simple enough, right? But as it turns out, the Lord had a different plan.

Once I retired, I began learning the art of making tamales. My mother-in-law had been coming up for years, teaching me her special techniques. I realized it was a lot of work, but that didn’t stop me—I was determined. At first, I would make a few tamales and sell them to my co-workers and friends. Soon, those friends told other friends, and before I knew it, the business started growing.

I have had so much support along the way. Louise and Lawrence were huge motivators for me, always encouraging me. My husband, my sister, and my entire family have been unwavering supporters. Sarah and KC took me under their wing and mentored me every step of the way. The Marrow family kindly allowed me to park at their lot to sell, and the Stahlman family has also been a tremendous support in helping me follow this dream. Mike and Dee are always just a phone call away, ready to help with anything I might need.

I’d also like to take a moment to thank my husband. This year marks 40 years together, and I am so grateful for his patience and love through all of my “crazy” ideas. A huge thank you to my sister, Lisa, who traveled from Houston to bring me supplies. My nephew, who made trips for me too. My sister-in-law, Janie. My daughters, Ashley and Monique, and my granddaughters, Sophia and Jazlyn, who are starting to learn the ropes. And last but certainly not least, I want to thank the wonderful Canyon Lake community for supporting my business and making all of this possible.

Thank you again to all of you for being here. It’s been an amazing journey, and I can’t wait to see where the future takes us.

God bless you all!
